Richard Neath Reviews

Loreto Keech  email   (April 17th 2010)
An absolutely brilliant read. I was spell-bound from start to finish and especially glued to the story as I had just visited Skye. My husband is not an avid reader but he also couldn't put it down and agreed that this is a suberb bok. I have recommended it to all my friends. Can't wait for another from Richard.

An excellent story and well written. Shame about the "spell check" spelling errors that pop up from time to time that detract from the overall quality of the book. Hope you correct them for the next edition. Looking forward to your next effort...

Recently purchased this book at the Gathering Hall, Portree. What a great read! I recommended it to everyone I know. The lady that sold me the book, Muriel, said that Richard is writing another one. I will wait with baited breath. Good luck Richard.

Firstly, I should inform you that my absolute writing hero is Stephen King. I was bought this book by Richard for my 65th Birthday and, well, what can I say? Richard, I thoroughly enjoyed it - your writing is fluid and extremely exciting and, at times, I was glued to reading - my wife was husbandless for a week! Great book and its nice to be able to review it too - thanks for that opportunity. Kind regards - when is the next one coming out?

Picked up your book while visiting Skye and Seumas Bar last year while on holiday. It is a really good read and brings back fond memories of Skye. I am going to pass my copy (signed by author) to friends in the U.S.A. that I can trust to return it! Cheers!

My Husband has had a copy of your book for some time and I've only recently read it myself (not being a particularly prolific reader) - I only wish I'd read it earlier. A truly awe-inspiring work that, not only made me laugh and cry at various points, but kept me gripped right until the last page. Superb, here's to your next one and continuing success and attention from the publishing world - you deserve it!

Richard, an excellent debut novel. Great characterization and pace with spot on description's of Skye, so much so I felt I was back on the Island myself. It takes a great deal of skill, effort and talent to achieve all this and you make it seem so easy, and I know its not! Well done mate and Good luck for the future. Now whoever is reading this please go out and buy this book, you wont be disappointed!

Hi Richard. Loved the book. Have read it twice. The story left me with an urge to see the island and I can't wait to get up there. In some places it pulled at my heartstrings, in other places it made me laugh but overall it made me see the place for myself. What a read!
Sara.

WOW! As I was one of the privileged people to read the draft copy in A4 form, which took me just under two weeks of reading in bed at night, it was fantastic to finally receive a signed first edition which was absolutely stunning. A story full of extremely interesting and scary characters, which came to life in my head and prevented me from sleep! I don't usually read thrillers, but could not put this one down. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hurry up and finish the next one. I'm very proud of you.

Read your second edition as home work for our holiday to Skye. It's even better the second time round, only took me 2 days to read this time, maybe next time i'll do it in a day.
You are a genius!

(Reproduced from letter received)... I thoroughly enjoyed reading your book and admired the way you constructed the plot to create the building of tension which reached its peak in the final chapters. I look forward to reading your future books.
Peter Robinson     (May 20th 2004)
"...I found it to be powerful stuff and very difficult to put down. As I tend to read in bed I've lost quite a lot of sleep lately! I like the way you handle descriptions and feelings. AA Wainwright wrote of the Black Cuillin 'They are the stuff of which ambitions are made. And dreams. And nightmares' - as Andy Perkins found out!
Well done! I look forward to reading your next book!

Was not knowing what to expect... but really enjoyed this first novel! Well written, well paced and of course that can't put this down 'till I've finished it feeling (always a good sign!). A compelling read with a great plot and characters that are interesting and believable ... very well written. The character Daniel Soames is ingenious in the extreme and deserves much praise
Can't wait for the next one!

WOW - what more can I say! EVERYONE has to read this book - I am visiting Skye in September - it makes you want/need to go. I have to see for myself! The section that builds up at the end is just magnificent Richard. I won't give too much away, but the imagination that has gone into this book is, well, second to none. Well done and I will most definately order your next one.
Helen Howarth     (May 7th 2004)
"Totally blew me away. Congratulations on writing such a great first novel - I just couldn't put it down and had to share it with my husband who would read it once I'd gone to sleep each night."

Richard what can I say, It gripped me from beginning to end. Have recommended to anyone who has seen me with the book in my hand. Not usually into this type of book but WOW! ABSOLUTELY WICKED 100percent MUST READ.

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. I was literally on the edge of my seat at the end. Can't wait for the next one.
J. Phillips     (April 2nd 2004)
I was given this book as a gift. I was a bit sceptical at first as, when I saw the cover, I thought it would just be about rock climbing - something I am not at all interested in. BUT this book has surprised me and I have learned to never judge a book by its cover. A corny pun, I know, but very true. I enjoyed it so much, Richard. Thank you. I will be in touch to order the next one.
Smantha Jefferies     (March 30th 2004)
Bought the book in November, only just read it. Can't believe I waited for so long. Enjoyed it immensely - very original, descriptive, moving and very adventurous for a debut novel. Well done!
Steve Dale     (March 21st 2004)
A really well paced story that had me looking forward to picking the book up (I don't get much time to read). It's been a long long time since the characters in a novel seemed so real, the descriptions so vivid and the dialogue so believable - it was like overhearing a series of conversations. A quite remarkable debut novel - I take my hat off to such a raw new talent.
Lisa Barrows  email   (March 21st 2004)
Brilliant! loved it from the minute i picked it up, got completely taken away by it. Was a bit mad reading about places i knew though (Penn Fields etc) but was a well written story. I am looking forward to the next one.
Paul Harris  email   (March 15th 2004)

What can i say? All the ingredients of a good read. Descriptive, exiting, wonderful scenery (in my head!) and the BEST bit, a really believable serial killer! ( cant beat a decent serial killer ;-> )
lisa harris  email   (March 5th 2004)

Faith Brotherston, Passionate Media     (February 21st 2004)
"A real page turner of a thriller."
Rob Davies, Express & Star      (February 21st 2004)
A nicely balanced mixture of escapism, friendship, hope and darkness... well written ... (Richard's)love of the craft comes from the heart and is reflected in the book.
