E&S Wolves reporter resigns

Yampy was surprised to learn that David Instone, long-time Wolves Reporter and Assistant Sports Editor at the Express and Star, resigned last week.

Only two weeks ago Instone published his 'Forever Wolves' book with the support and co-operation of his employers. The book was released to commemorate Wolves' 125 year anniversary, and indeed it sometimes seems that David Instone has reported on Wanderers for most of that period. He witnessed Steve Bull and Andy Thompson signing for Wolves in 1986, and fourteen years later was the only reporter allowed to accompany Bully to collect his MBE from Buckingham Palace.

We are not sure what has led to David's departure, having scoured the internet and found no reference to it - even on fansites. We can only hope that either he or E&S Editor Adrian 'Darth' Faber are regular Yampy readers and decide to share their final chat with us. We do believe that he was not happy at being moved to cover other teams, a decision that we understand was made without his involvement and led to unfounded rumours that he had chased a 'Premiership posting'. The Express and Star are covering more Wolves stories than ever, so it seems strange that someone with 16 years' experience of Wanderers ends up reporting on Ryder Cup Golf! A weary hack told Yampy this morning "Looks like Darth's got yet another tribunal on his hands".

We have opened up a forum thread (Click here) and hope that Gornal Wolves fans will use it to let us in on anything they know, and to reflect on Instone's contribution over the years - did he tend to call things right on balance, or did you often think you were at a different match?
