Free Gardeners' Friendly Society 1897

photo Many thanks to Miriam Leaver of the Epicentre Pet Shop for sending us this antique document. Although the Friendly Society that is the subject of this Quarterly Report and Accounts is in the 'Brierley-Hill District', and the meeting is to be held at 'Red Lion Inn, Wordsley', it will be of interest to many Gornal family historians. Found in a Gornal house, it is packed full of local surnames.

photo Miriam explains:

My husband and myself lived in the white cottage that was knocked down last year on the Cinder Road, by the traffic lights (just off Himley Road). When we replaced the ceiling in our living room, we found this report. We found it in 1997 which is a bit weird as the date on it is 1897. Hope you find it as interesting as we did!

As soon as we get chance we will catalogue the names so that search engines can find them, but most of the usual Gornal families are there. There is a Balance Sheet section that we haven't published because it does not appear to contain directly relevant information, but get in touch if you're really keen and we will upload it for you. admin@yampy.co.uk.
