MP's Winter Fuel Payment Reminder

Ross Cranston, Labour MP for Dudley North, has sent us an email to remind Yampy surfers who are over 60 of their possible entitlement to £200 towards heating bills this winter. He says:

"The cold weather should be a reminder, but I urge all those over 60 who think they are eligible, and have not already done so, to make a claim. Some may receive payment automatically, but if not they must make the claim before the 31 March 2003 deadline. They should ring 08459 151515 for further information.

"As many as 11 million people received Winter Fuel Payments last year, so helping to ease the extra financial burden of heating when the cold weather hits hard. The Government has consistently increased the payment since 1997 to its current level of £200. This is one of the Government's measures for lifting pensioners out of poverty".

To be eligible, you must be aged 60 or over and ordinarily resident in Great Britain as at 16-22 September 2002. There are certain exclusions, and others who will receive payment automatically without submitting a claim. If in doubt it's well worth a phone call to find out!
