Gornal Goes Global - February visitor details

When we launched Yampy at the end of July 2002, one of our main aims was to put Gornal 'on the map'. We were delighted therefore to note from our web statistics for February 2003 that an incredible forty four countries surfed in to us during that month alone!

Generally, February marked a period of consolidation after the huge increase in the site's popularity over the previous month; We averaged 169 visitors a day, a modest increase compared to January's watershed. Our biggest daily visitor count during February was a whopping 255, on the 5th. We hear that we got a mention on Carl Chinn's Radio WM broadcast round about that time (he read out the Eli and Hitler poem).

There were times in February where it was difficult for us to maintain our usual enthusiasm. We had the stuffing knocked out of us when the Express and Star first pinched one of our stories and then, when we complained, threatened to sue us for defamation (click here).

It takes us days, sometimes weeks, of hard work to get our history articles together, and when it emerged that a journalist, working for a rich newspaper with plenty of resources to find their own stories, can copy our work with apparent impunity, it did make us question for a moment whether we should continue.

However, we have now recovered our fighting spirit, and look forward to improving the site during March.

Many thanks to everyone for your support!
