Awards for Gornal schools

Ross Cranston MP welcomed the news that eight schools in Dudley North received £100,000 under the School Achievement Awards this year.

Ross Cranston said: ‘I am delighted that the Department for Education and Skills has decided that eight schools – seven primary and one secondary - in Dudley should receive money under the third round of this Award. This is fantastic news for Dudley schools. The Awards are a recognition of success and improvement, and the important work of the staff in driving this forward.'

Primary and secondary schools can qualify for an Award if:
  • The school’s pupil performance was substantially better than in 1999;
  • The school’s pupil performance in 2002 was better than most schools in similar circumstances;
  • Those schools that have come out special measure in the 2001-2 school year.
The successful schools include the following in the Gornal area:

Cotwall End Primary (£9,360) Roberts Primary (£11,310) Straits Primary (£6,690)

‘This Award is a fantastic incentive for staff, pupils and parents to strive for this improvement' continued Mr. Cranston. 'I am writing to the Head teachers of these schools to congratulate them.’
