Pig Painting Puzzle
A Wolverhampton man has appealed to Yampy readers for help in locating a treasured
painting that was kept in the Pig on the Wall,
which was demolished last week.
Pete Baggett, of Wolverhampton, says that his late mother was the artist who
composed the portrait of a Cotwall End pig peering over the wall of its sty.
The picture was a watercolour, signed "Monica" in the bottom right hand corner.
The artist was a former Head Teacher at Westfield First School in Wombourne,
who took up painting when she retired. A member of Wolverhampton Society of
Artists, she had her work exhibited at the city's art gallery.
"The picture has great sentimental value to our family and we very much wish to
trace it" said Pete. "I find the thought of it being dumped on a
rubbish tip somewhere very distressing and wondered if anybody knew what has
happened to it".
According to site workers, the pub was stripped bare by the owner prior to
demolition such that 'there wasn't so much as a beer bottle left in it".
It seems unlikely therefore that the painting has been destroyed.
Most people in Gornal know somebody who knows Pig on the Wall landlord
John Green, and we would be grateful if a message could reach him to
find out if he can help Pete to be reunited with the picture.
