Something to Shout About!
A Gornal playgroup is celebrating today after a successful bid for more than £4000 of lottery money.
Noise: Creative Family Learning was started by Summer Lane resident Beth Moore, just over a month ago. It meets
each Friday at 1.00pm at the Robert St. School Children and Parent Zone
(click here for location map), and explores creative arts through music,
accommodating all local families with children under the age of 5 (or older in special cases) and their parents.
When Yampy went along today the subject was 'Happy Harvest', and after a sing-song the group got stuck into making
paper hats and baking bread. There was some cross-over in the activities; nobody actually ate a hat, but a few appeared to
be making one out of dough.
Later, the group moved on to the Dudley Environment Zone where Guy showed children and parents the vegetable garden and
pond life.
Beth says that the idea for Noise came to her when she was thinking about things to do for her own children. She spent
six months researching prior to submitting her bid to the National Lottery
Awards for All Scheme
, who considered the
application for a further three months before the surprise news came yesterday.
"We got every penny we asked for" said Beth "enabling us to buy instruments and creative materials celebrating
all cultures, and to introduce new crafts to families. We will also be able to train our volunteers and utilise
professional artistes, and have plans to launch our own website".
A very happy Beth paid tribute to the support of Co-ordinator Jolyon and Secretary/musician Anisa - who will now be able
to buy an instrument to play! - and said "This is fantastic news, and will benefit the whole community".
