Just Do Something!
Our MP Ross Cranston has drawn our attention to a new
website which helps people find ways of getting involved in community and public life.
He told us: ‘For people wanting to get involved in the local community they can access this new website
to help them see what roles are available locally.
It will help people in Dudley to put the skills and experience to work for the public good.
Perhaps there are people who have always wanted to be involved n a school as a governor or become a magistrate.
This website will help people to do that.
‘The website –
www.justdosomething.net
- is a database of 7,000 opportunities around the country.
But it is organised regionally. So the type of opportunities that are currently on offer in the region include:
- Membership of the board of a local Citizens Advice Bureau
- Membership of the board of a local Groundwork Trust
- Committee member for BBC Children in Need Appeal
- Appointment as a magistrate
- Non-magistrate member of an advisory committee on the appointment of magistrates
- Membership of the Board of the Regional Development Agency
‘I very much welcome the launch of this database which will help Dudley people give to their local community'
continued Mr. Cranston. 'It will help those motivated to see how they might best serve the local community.
It also gives advice on how to set something up.
Many find such activities enormously rewarding, and also good fun. I urge people to log on and “justdosomething”.’
