MP asks for your views on alcohol
Recently we reported that Ross Cranston QC, MP for Dudley North, has launched his own web site
Mr. Cranston has requested that constituents use the site to let him know their views on whether alcohol should be banned
in public places. He commented:
'The consumption of alcohol and the affect it has on crime and anti-social behaviour is an issue that is very important
to many constituents. Now that my website is up and running, I am using this new facility to ask people whether
No Drinking Zones, like the one already in place in Halesowen town centre, are a good idea.
'As part of a general consultation on alcohol I am also asking people to give their views on how its misuse can be
prevented and treated. For many years, alcohol has been the poor relation in the battle against drugs.
But with the government now formulating a national strategy on alcohol misuse this issue is finally getting
the attention merited by the severity of the problem.
'Finally I am asking people's views on whether licensing hours should be extended. As chair of the All Party Alcohol Misuse
Group I would certainly find it useful to do a survey of public opinion in Dudley North before the new Licensing Bill
passes through the House of Commons.'
'For those not on line who want to get in touch about alcohol or any other issue please drop me a line at the
Holloway Chambers, 28 Priory Street, Dudley DY1 1EZ or at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA.
Those with the technology can email direct from the website.'
