Things Not so Good at the 'Tent
Updated 10/5/03 see foot of article.
Good Intent
Anyone making the trip up to deepest Ruiton for a pint at the
Good Intent at the moment will be
disappointed to find that the pub's doors are shut.
There has been uncertainty over the tenancy since Ken and Di left a couple of months
ago, and Yampy has been taking a keen interest because we run the Tent's website and
don't know what to tell site visitors!
For a few weeks after Ken and Di's departure the pub, which is well known as one of the
friendliest in Gornal, was looked after by its regular barmaid and her husband,
who were considering whether or not to accept the tenancy.
We presume that they must have decided against the
idea, because the next time we visited we met a 'Zoey', who introduced herself
as the new landlady and arranged to meet us the following week to discuss the
web site. Unfortunately she was
too busy to make the appointment, and shortly afterwards the Tent stopped opening. A
security company warning notice is now prominently displayed in the front window, a
far cry from the warm welcome that was a feature of the Good Intent until very recently.
Concerned that yet another Gornal pub with a proud
history
might be
lost, we contacted owners Avebury this afternoon, who told us that there were no plans
to close the Good Intent and that they were simply looking for new tenants.
If the experience of another Ruiton Avebury pub, The Crown, is anything to go by we could be in for
quite a wait for a new gaffer at the Tent, so if any brave Yampy reader wants to take the job on,
contact details are at www.aveburypubs.co.uk.

10th May 2003. Good news - there's a chalked sign outside the 'Tent saying that it is re-opening on
Tuesday 13th May.
