Certificate in Community Work
Following
two successful runs, during which one student described sessions
as "enlightening, motivational and inspiring",
the Certificate in Commmunity Work course is due to run again from Monday May 12th 2003 at 10.00am, at the Lower
Gornal Youth Centre.
The course allows you to get training in the Theory, Skills
and Practice of Community Work. It's a nationally recognised Open College qualification for people who are not working
and it’s FREE.
Run by Black Country Housing & Community Services Group, in conjunction
with Lower Gornal Youth Centre, and with funds from the ESF, lessons run from
10am to 1pm for two weeks, with the timetable as follows:
Week one – Community Work Skills/Theory Part 1 (Classroom sessions)
Week two – Community Work Skills/Theory Part 2 (Classroom sessions)
Week three onwards – Community Work Practice (Placements)

This successful course has three (of five) runs left as shown above.
Choose the one that suits you and turn up on the relevant Open Day, at Lower Gornal Youth Centre.
All “classroom” sessions are there; placements will be at the organisation you are placed with.
“Certificate in Community Work” gives a taster of various types of Community Work,
including Regeneration, and Work with Children & Young People.
You can use this to decide which form of Community Work you may wish to pursue further.
There will be advice and support to assist you in this.
