Certificate in Community Work

Last time we told you about the Certificate in Community Work course at Lower Gornal Youth Club we didn't hear about it till the last moment so left it pretty late to let you know.

So here's plenty of advance warning about future sessions. The course allows you to get training in the Theory, Skills and Practice of Community Work. It's a nationally recognised Open College qualification for people who are not working and it’s FREE, with travel costs being paid and childcare provided

Run by Black Country Housing & Community Services Group, in conjunction with Lower Gornal Youth Centre, and with funds from the ESF, it's aimed at people who are not working. Lessons run from 10am to 1pm for two weeks, with the timetable as follows:

Week one – Community Work Theory (Classroom sessions)

Week two – Community Work Skills (Classroom sessions)

Week three onwards – Community Work Practice (Placements)

This course will be run on five separate occasions. Choose the one that suits you best and then turn up on the relevant Open Day, at the Lower Gornal Youth Centre. All "classroom" sessions will be held there, while placements will take place at the organisation you are placed with.

The classroom sessions (weeks one and two), will include elements about Planning Events, How Councils Work, Management Committees, Regeneration, Funding/Fundraising, Evaluation, and Working with Children & Young People.

Training is FREE, and travel costs will be paid. Childcare will be available at the Centre, which is very comfortable and where there are pleasant surroundings for relaxing with a cup of tea or coffee during breaks.
