Gornal school raises £1200 for Comic Relief

A Lower Gornal school is saying a very big thank you to staff and students who raised more than £1200 for Comic Relief.

Wendy Barnard, Deputy Head of Ellowes Hall School has expressed her delight and plans to make Comic Relief even bigger and better at the school next time.

She said "our Mufti Day raised £814.00, and we added a further £300 from the sale of Red Noses. Perhaps the bravest contribution was the £150 that came from 6th former, Mark "Wakey" Wakelam who was sponsored to have his legs waxed and then sold the privilege of pulling the strips of wax off to students and staff at £1 a go."

Wendy said "it is important that our pupils take part in activities that raise awareness of people less fortunate than ourselves, the fact that they had so much fun in the process cannot be a bad thing."
