Children and Parents Zone Goings On - Programme for Spring 2003
We have featured the Children and Parents Zone at Robert Street School previously at Yampy
(click here, includes map), and were pleased to receive from them the following details of
forthcoming activities - looks like something for just about everybody:
The Zone is a community wide resource for parents and young people. We are based at Roberts Primary School but are open to all in the local area. We provide a range of activities throughout the year around the themes of:
- Opportunities for families to learn
- Support with parenting
- Promoting play and learning for children
- A space and time for parents to chill out
Peep-po
Join local health visitors and other parents for a fun morning. The theme is play. Share ideas and have fun playing for your child. Please join us on: Monday mornings from 9.30am to 11.15am
Women’s Group
A great opportunity for women of any age to come and make new friends. Participate in exercise and healthy eating classes, learn new skills and relax in a friendly environment. The group runs every Wednesday from 9.30am to 11.30am. Starting on 5th February.
Noise
An exciting activity involving music, movement and arts for young children (and their parents).
The sessions will run from 1 to 2.45pm on Friday afternoons. Phone Beth Moore on 07930 135738 for more information.
Pre-Nursery Group
A structured session to help prepare children due to start to Nursery. Open to all children whatever Nursery they are due to attend.This session takes place between 9am and 10.30am on Friday mornings. If you are interested please phone and speak to Pat on 01384 818274.
Parent and Toddler Club
Come along to the Parent and Toddler Club for a coffee and a chat with other Mum’s and Dad’s. With a story time, play and art activities for the children. There is a waiting list so please phone first. On Tuesdays from 9 to 11.15am and Wednesday afternoon’s from 1pm to 2.40pm.
Lifelong learning
There will be new courses running this term and a crèche will be available. Most of the courses will be free.
A Child’s World Find out about how children grow and develop. A nine week course.
CACHE Certificate in Playwork
Learn about planning and promoting play. This course will allow you to work as a playworker
Yoga and Relaxation – a lunch time session with a creche

Help with Children’s Behaviour
Starting after half term we will be running a group for parents who might be having problems with their children’s behaviour. The aim of the group is to offer support to help parents find new ways of dealing with difficult behaviours. It will run for six weeks. Please talk to Jolyon on 01384 818273 to find out more.
Advice and help for Parents
If you are experiencing difficulties with your child and would like to talk to somebody we can offer you one to one confidential help and advice.
Information Zone
There is free access to the internet for local people. Just drop in and log Assistance is available if you need it.
Tums and Tots - a Teen Parents Group.
Are you a young parent or teenager who is pregnant? Would you like to meet up with other young parent’s once a week? Take time out, find out more about caring for your child, or consider your options.
The Group meets on Thursday’s between 12pm and 2.30pm
Calling all fathers?
Would you be interested in meeting with other Dads, we would like to set up a support group for fathers. We are having a meeting at 1pm on Tuesday 11th February so please come along
Citizens Advice Bureau
There is a Citizens Advice Bureau surgery at the Children and Parents Zone every Wednesday afternoon. It runs from 2 to 4pm. If you need any advice please phone 01384 816070 for an appointment.
