Gornal Golden Jubilee Fun Day
A view of proceedings from the top of the Mill
The sun came out on the 29th June to help Gornal celebrate the Queen's Jubilee at the Quarry Recreation Grounds.
The event was organised by the Upper Gornal Voluntary Recreation
Association , with the assistance of a number of local organisations such as
Sedgley ATC, and in the presence of the
Carnival Princess and Rosebud.
Hosts for the day were Dudley and District Hospital Radio, who introduced a number of acts including the excellent
line dancing talents of Gornal's own Louisiana Lin and her students.
There were plenty of amusements for the youngsters, and Joe Davies' famous 'Lady Wulfrun' keyless fair organ to provide music
and atmosphere.
Highlight of the day for your reporter was the opportunity to get up to the top of the Mill and admire the astonishing views.
I wonder how many Gornalites are barely aware of its existence, let alone know what it is like inside and up top?
Gornal has a dormant treasure in the Mill. It is in surprisingly good condition and I was pleased to learn from the person
in charge of it for the day, John Richards, that a Committee has been set up to investigate possible future uses for it.
Yampy will keep you informed of progress - in our opinion, it would make a lovely museum of Gornal history. CLICK FOR PHOTOS
