Gary Megson's Challenge by Mike Blackcountrykid

West Brom are playing Birmingham City. The Baggies players are in the dressing room for the pre-match talk.

Manager Gary Megson states: "I could beat the Blues on my own, even though I have retired. In fact, take the afternoon off and I'll prove it".

The team depart to a local pub, and put the radio on. The game has kicked off and, to their amazement, the Baggies are a goal up.

"Seems as though the Gaffer has got it right" says Jason Roberts.

The team then get engrossed in a knockout pool competition. An hour later someone says "Put the radio back on it's almost full time".

The reporter on the radio reads the final score: West Bromwich Albion 1 Birmingham City 1.

The players agree that the Manager has certainly proved his point, and go back to the Hawthorns to congratulate him. They find Gary still in the dressing room in his kit, head in hands, weeping.

"What's up Boss?" asks Big Dave "I know you said you'd win on your own but a draw is an incredible result".

"I've everyone down" replies a tearful Megson.

"You've let nobody down" says Dave "what makes you think such a thing?"

The Manager shakes his head in sorrow. "I got sent off in the 12th minute".
