A 'Whats On' programme for Jack Darby's Picture House
Further to our history of Jack Darby's Picture House (click here) we were pleased to receive the item below from Councillor David Stanley. It is a programme guide for the cinema from 1959, the last full year of operation for the Picture House, which showed its last film in January 1960.

The guide is titled "What's On?", and - according to the 'Cinemas of the Black Country' book by Ned Williams featured in our earlier article - the owner of the Picture House Howard Darby (son of Jack) claimed to be the first to coin this phrase as a guide to forthcoming entertainment.

There are some famous films and stars on the list for April 1959.. and some that have stood the test of time less well. If your memories are stirred, why not let us know? Email Yampy at admin@yampy.co.uk.
