HISTORY
The Crooked House Guard Goose
Do you remember the
Crooked House guard goose? Last week Mike sent us his
memories of the Limerick pub, which was run by his father Ian Love
(click here). Ian also ran the
Crooked House, and Mike has jogged the memory of Ian Beach from
www.sedgleymanor.com who writes:
Regarding the dreaded "Guard Goose" at the Crooked House, back in the late 1960's
when I was attending
Dudley College of Technology
a group of us used to go to a local pub for pint and a cheese & onion cob in the lunch hour. One day we
decided to go to the Crooked House.
Just before we were due to leave one of the blokes said he had to go to the
toilet (which at the time was in a building in the carpark).
When it was time
to leave and he still hadn't returned we all trooped outside to our cars (no
Breath tests in those days!!!). all we could hear was a plaintive cry from the
toilet block... "Help! There's a bloody great goose in here and it won't let me
out!"
After rolling about on the ground laughing for a suitable time we fetched the
Landlady to call the goose off.
Apologies to Ian for filing this story in our 'History' section - it's not really 'News',
and the Crooked House isn't a 'Lost Pub', so we're afraid that Yampy has got to
consign tales of the swinging sixties to the ancient past!
Send your Yampy Gornal memories to admin@yampy.co.uk.
