Remember the Bette Guest School of Dance?
Good Intent
Our article about the uncertain future of the
Good Intent pub prompted John Williams
to write to us:
I was sorry to hear that the Good Intent has closed its doors and hope that it is temporary.
My wife Pat (nee Adshead) used to attend the Bette Guest School Of Dance at the pub, which was owned by
Bette's parents. The room used was the childrens room. Pat joined the class in
approx 1951 and stayed with them till 1957.There were many shows done at the
Memorial Hall Lower Gornal and Sedgley Parish Hall.
Also the older girls used to
do cabarets and also danced at BILSTON THEATRE ROYAL a number of times.
Some of these girls names were Margaret Harris, Valerie Yarsley, Pauline Hawkes,
Janet Cash,Pat Woodhall, Pat Adshead and Vera Walker. Many happy hours were
spent there. Sadly Bette passed away in Feb 1999 in Anglesey
