Yampy is grateful to Ian Beach of www.sedgleymanor.com
for this photo of a typical Gornal nativity play around 1955.
Ian is third from the left at the back is black, and his friend Gary Westwood is in the middle with the stick,
having apparently secured the plum role of Joseph. Ian thought that 'Mary' might be Irene Flavell but Gary
informs us that Irene did not attend the church. Both agree that the Chinese Mandarin
(essential character in any Christmas story!) was Barbara Kettle. These names all crop up in the list of
Tudor County Primary pupils on our Friends index page.
Other names so far - Ian thinks that the chap to the right of him was named Hodgson (possibly Geoffrey
according to Gary), and Gary has identified
the following:
1) The angel on Ian's left is Yvonne Ball.
2) The angel in the centre is Yvonne Thomas.
3) the angel to the left of Yvonne Thomas is Victoria Lane.
4) The angels either side of the crib are sisters. LEFT: Lynn Bowen. RIGHT: Jennifer Bowen.
Gary thinks that the girl on the extreme right is a Flavell (but not Irene Flavell he says).
Can any Yampy reader identify others on the photo? If so please get in touch, and share your memories with us at
admin@yampy.co.uk. Or, why not put your name up on our
Find Old Friends page?
