Natasha Bennett - Gornal's Britney? Update 5/4/03 Stars in their Eyes: Kids

Who hasn't heard of 11 year old Dormston pupil Natasha by now?

A finalist in a major TV competition on BBC One's The Saturday Show, where she met Britney Spears herself at the London premier of her film Crossroads, Natasha learnt last month that she has fought off stiff competition for a prestigious scholarship to the Silvia Young Stage School.

She followed this up by coming within a whisker of winning GMTV's TotStars.

Yampy wishes Natasha the best of luck for a long and successful career.

Update 4/4/03

Natasha is appearing on national television again tomorrow, Saturday 5th April. Stars in their Eyes: Kids (7pm ITV) is a junior version of Matthew Kelly's soundalike show, this time hosted by Cat Deeley.

The ex-Dormston girl, now 12, will be reprising the perfect voice of Karen Carpenter and surely has a great chance of winning. It's the biggest Gornal news since the earthquake! Let's all get behind her - good luck Natasha!

Update 5/4/03

Despite a thoroughly professional performance tonight on ITV, Natasha did not win her heat of Stars in their Eyes: Kids. Although she was probably the best singer on the show, presenter Cat Deeley stressed before voting began that the winner should be the one that sounded most like the artist they were copying. By this criteria the girl tackling the distinctive sound of Kate Bush had a head start and on balance deserved to shade it.

Still, Natasha has a second chance to qualify for the final as the best overall runner up according to a phone poll. Her main competition from this heat will come from the impressive "Sophie Ellis Bextor".

Yampy has just one grumble - we were hoping to hear that Natasha is from Gornal, and maybe even get a peek of the Mill or Crooked House. But instead we were told that Natasha was from Dudley, and just to twist the knife she was filmed at the Merry Hell centre!
