It's a Kind of Magic
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets opens where The Philosopher's Stone ends, but if you thought it could not get
any better then you are in for a surprise. It has flying cars, giant spiders, monsters - what more could anyone ask for?
The young cast of this blockbuster movie are brilliant, as the three friends; Harry, Ron and Hermione who start their
second year at Hogwarts School for Wizards. A mysterious monster lurks within the school and petrified bodies are found
in the corridors. The scene where Harry and Ron are surrounded by giant spiders in the dark wood is scary and also
humorous, and the brilliant game of Quidditch between Gryffindor and Slytherin Houses will have you on the edge of your
seats.
There are some wonderful special effects in this film. For instance, when Harry breaks his arm in the Quidditch match
and Gilderoy Lockhart insists on mending it with magic. Things do not go the way he planned!
The actor who shines for me in this magical story is Rupert Grint who plays Ron Weasley. He has a style all his own
and is very entertaining. Once again Robbie Coltrane is wonderful as Hagrid the school's caretaker who takes the three
wizards under his wing. It is a pity we do not see more of him in this follow up. Kenneth Branagh is also very believable
and amusing as Gilderoy Lockhart, the new teacher at Hogwarts who is not all he seems!
This film turned out to be the last for the late Richard Harris who plays Professor Dumbledore, so was very poignant.
However, he put in a superb performance and will be fondly remembered.
Do not leave your seats until after the last credit as there is another gem of a scene which many people
will miss.
